Today the Good Lord blessed us with a half inch of rain. Our pasture needed it and our plants needed it. Rain is a refreshing thing. It is amazing how much things will grow and perk up after just a little shower. I have some Purple Hull Peas and Black-eyed Peas Planted and they burst forth with beautiful lavender and white blooms and began loading up with pea pods.

There are some that are ready to harvest and bring inside and shell. Nothing like eating some peas over rice.

Cow peas aren't the only thing to respond favorably to some rain. The orange trees put on fresh new growth in appreciation of the precipitation.

Fresh Growth |
After walking around looking at the results of the rainfall, I realized that plants aren't the only things that like water. Our hens have really labored through the hot, dry summer. When I fill the water troughs, some of them jump right up on the edge and have a drink. Chickens have an odd way of drinking. They take a sip of water and then turn their heads skyward with their beaks partially open as they swallow it.

Shall we gather by the river? |
Pretty soon we had a nice crowd around the water trough. The three hens on the trough itself are called Black Stars. Black Stars are a cross between a Rhode Island Red and a Barred Rock. The white bird on the right is an Aracauna rooster.

I got my toes in the water... |
We're always thankful when we get a nice refreshing rain. Again, thank you, LORD, for the rain!
