That Wife of Mine Turned 49!

Today Milkmaid Tricia turned 49 years old.  Our daughter surprised her mom with a visit in from Baton Rouge and put together a magical and creative birthday cake with a festive homemade banner. It was called a Vintage Cake and she got the recipe on Pinterest.  It combines two layers of white cake mix with a surprise bottom layer that is actually a brownie soaked in decadent chocolate sauce. The whole thing is iced with cream cheese frosting with almond extract - everything made from scratch and delicious.  Tricia loved it!

The Birthday Girl
Here is a shot of the cake once we sang Happy Birthday, the candle was blown out, and we attacked it.  You can see the brownie layer on the bottom.

Laura was pretty busy putting everything together.  She managed the kitchen with flair and confidence.  We sat around visiting and then ate the cake, and we washed it all down with some fresh squeezed lemonade with some fancy ice cubes.

Laura walked around the yard Sunday afternoon and picked tiny flowers off of blooming crepe myrtles, plumbago, and lariope and froze them in ice cube trays.

Fancy Ice Cubes
When the ice cubes started to melt in the lemonade, the vivid colors of the flowers added panache to the celebration.  We hope that's all they added.  Hopefully none of those flowers are poisonous...  I'm still feeling fine.

We had a slow and peaceful celebration, eating cake, drinking lemonade and laughing.  Tricia wasn't the only one who was excited to see Laura in for the festivities.  I was, too, of course, but Benjamin was all smiles as well to see Big Sis! Russ had to work and couldn't come in, but we'll save a slice or two of Vintage cake for him.  I know he'll enjoy it like we did.

Happy to see his big sister!
Tricia had a great day for her birthday and says that she feels no different turning 49.  Happy Birthday, Tricia!  We love you!!
