The weather was miserable toward the end of the week, but Mother's day was absolutely beautiful! We had a nice day, ate a good meal and enjoyed each other's company. We were stuffed so we walked around the yard for a bit. There were a couple new flowers blooming that I didn't capture in the photographs from the last flower post. So here goes:
Our magnolia tree is in bloom. The magnolia flower is our State flower. I think it is pretty, but it smells even better than it looks. It smells so clean and crisp, if that makes any sense.

These big flowers fill the trees. Our little tree is only about 5 feet tall but has several blooms on it with many more to come. I've tried to cut them and bring them inside to be enjoyed in a vase, but they turn brown very quickly.
Now, here is a flower that I don't think we've talked about before. It is called a Bleeding Heart Vine and is different from the Bleeding Heart flower. This plant originates in Africa. We got it from a cutting off of a friend's plant that we were able to get to take root. It is flourishing now. In fact, I think I need to put it into a bigger pot.

The flower is interesting in that a little red berry-looking item sits in the center of a pure white flower. Then it opens up to reveal a pretty red flower.

And here is a final picture of the Bleeding Heart vine. I'd like to get this vining on something, but I need it to be movable since this plant is susceptible to cold weather/freeing temperatures.
